The Port of Brisbane Corporation’s primary role is to facilitate trade growth through the commercial management of an efficient and customer-focused port. To this end, we provide the necessary infrastructure through the sustainable planning and development of new facilities, and maintenance and management of existing facilities.

Progressively developed on a greenfield site since 1976, the port is a modern, purpose-built 750-hectare facility at the mouth of the Brisbane River, just 24 kilometres from Brisbane’s CBD. Unlike its southern competitor ports of Sydney and Melbourne, it is unencumbered by urban encroachment and its associated operational restrictions.

In 2007/2008 the Port of Brisbane reached record trade figures, with container trade reaching 942,217 teus and total trade, 30.2 million tonnes.

Capital expenditure in port infrastructure is set to continue over the next five years, with over $850 million to be invested in new wharves, warehouses and terminal areas to handle the long-term trade growth at the Port of Brisbane
