Exports to Europe holding steady

Box exports to Europe from Australia and Oceania was the only major trade to post an increase in November, according to Container Trades Statistics (CTS).

Exports on that trade rose to 14,600 teu in November from 14,100 teu in October, an increase of 3.5%, according to the latest CTS report, which tracks European exports and imports on seven trade routes including North America.

November’s box exports to Europe from Australia is the second consecutive month that container volumes on this route has increased, CTS data showed.   

Box exports to Europe from Australia jumped 7.4% from a year ago’s 13,600 teu and imports to Australia from Europe climbed 12.3% from the previous year to 38,400 teu, the report said.

Meanwhile, imports to Europe from Asia in November hit 1.043m teu, the lowest monthly level since Chinese New Year in 2011 when container volumes were 848,000 teu.

On other trades, imports to Europe from South and Central America fell 7.5% to the lowest monthly figure of 2011 and exports to South and Central America fell 1.8%.

Data provided by Container Trade Statistics include both dry and reefer boxes.
