Australia’s buoyant economy, driven largely by thriving exports, depends on continued and accelerated investment in freight transport infrastructure.
The Australian Federal and State Governments are spending on transport infrastructure at unprecedented levels. A recent study for the Victorian Government highlights a need to spend $18 billion to improve transport links across Melbourne, which includes a network of intermodal facilities across the city.
With the launch of Infrastructure Australia, the new Federal Government plans to free up port, road and rail bottlenecks and address the nation’s future infrastructure needs. The National Transport Commission is implementing a national approach to transport policy, and each Minister has been allocated specific responsibilities with regard to developing aspects of the National Transport Policy Framework.
